Interior Decorating FAQ

How long does the interior decorating process usually take?

Because every home is so different, it’s hard to say exactly how long the process will take. That’s especially true if you’re looking to renovate your home as well as redesign your space. It also depends on the size of your home – a one bedroom condo will take less time than a three storey house, for example.

We’ll give you an estimate for how long we expect your home redesign to take before we get started.

Does MatiDesign specialize in a specific style of interior decorating?

MatiDesign’s style of decorating is designed to reflect you, the homeowner. That’s part of the consultation process. Mati will take the time to consult with you, understanding your unique personality and needs for your home. From there, we’ll explore how best to redesign your home to fit what you’re looking for.

So you won’t have to worry about living in a cookie cutter house that looks the same as everyone else’s.

Do you work with commercial environments as well?

Yes, MatiDesign will work with you to create a space more appealing to the people in it, whether it’s a residential or commercial environment.

Where do you get your product from?

MatiDesign will bring you a wide range of different products from many different sources, including big box retailers, mom and pop shops, importer and exporters, antique dealers, and more.

Can you help me source custom art for my home?

Then you don’t have to keep it. It’s really that simple. MatiDesign will bring you a number of different options for your home. At no point are you obligated to buy any of them.

What if you bring me product I don’t like?

Yes, MatiDesign works with a number of professional artists and galleries who can create custom pieces for your home.

Home Staging FAQ

How long does it take for a staged home to sell?

This is a tough question to answer, of course – there are so many different factors at play.

But according to a 2022 survey by the Real Estate Staging Association, staged homes spend an average of 73% less time on the market.

In fact, many homes staged by MatiDesign have ended up in a bidding war, selling for higher than the original asking price.

How long does the home staging process take?

A staging job can usually be done within a week. It’s faster than decorating because it’s less personal and there is more urgency in wanting your home to be sold.

If you’re planning on repainting or renovating some areas, it may take longer.

What is the most important element when staging a home?

It’s all about curb appeal!

Your potential buyers have seen the pictures online, they know the price, and they know the neighbourhood. If they arrive at a messy, disorganized home in disrepair, they won’t even bother considering any further. Your first impression is the most important.

What are the most important elements to update when staging a home?

Beyond decluttering and cleaning your home , the most important element for home staging is your lighting.

Even if your home is gorgeous, without the proper lighting you won’t be able to show it off properly. The kitchen is also very important.

I don’t think I can afford a home stager…

If that’s how you feel, then you can’t afford not to hire a home stager.

The cost of staging your home is always less than your first price reduction.

Why should I bother with home staging? My neighbour, friend, cousin, uncle, plumber, or etc sold their home without staging it!

Good for them. How much did they sell it for? How long did it sit on the market? And how much more could they have sold it for if it was staged?

Why take the risk?

Can’t I just stage it myself?

Can you?

Can you put aside your personal feelings about your home? Can you ignore all the memories you built with your family within your home’s walls and look at it the way a buyer would?

Do you know how to depersonalize your home?

Can you be objective about what your home needs?

And do you have the product you need to stage it in a way that’s appealing to buyers?

These are questions only you can answer. But there’s enough to worry about during the process of moving. Why not let a professional take care of you?

But does my home really need to be staged?

Every home can benefit from staging.

Whether your home is worth a hundred thousand or ten million, you’re not likely to get the best price for it unless you’ve had it staged.

I’m a very busy person and don’t have much time to give to the process of staging my home. How much do you need from me?

Not much, actually.

Some people like to be directly involved in the staging process, while others would rather take a back seat approach and let someone else take care of the heavy lifting. Either way, MatiDesign can accommodate your needs.

When is the best time to stage my home?

Before it’s listed.

If you list your home before it has been staged, you’ll have dozens of potential buyers looking at it and moving on.

If your home was staged, these people would likely have been more interested, but if your home isn’t staged you’ll end up losing those buyers. Make sure you leave enough time for any renovation work to be done as well.

My home is currently empty. Should I have it staged?

Yes, absolutely. In fact, believe it or not that’s even more important.

An empty home feels cold and distant. Without furniture people will have a hard time picturing how much space their own things will take up.

They’ll start paying attention to oddly shaped rooms or a lack of detail in the home’s construction (boring floorboards, for example).

This will create a negative impression.

Once I sell my home, can you help me decorate my new one?

Of course! We get that a lot, actually.
