Maybe you’re a big fan of loud, bombastic artists like Jean-Michel Basquiat or Keith Haring.
No problem, it all works with neutral furniture.

The same is true for choosing your wall colours.
Often, I hear from clients who hired a residential painting company to paint their home, only to end up hating it.
But here’s the thing – painting contractors don’t necessarily have an eye for design.
They’ll paint what you want them to paint.
But it doesn’t necessarily mesh with the rest of your home.
Keeping your wall colours fairly neutral will allow your accent pieces to really pop.
Of course, you can always do an accent wall as well.
3. Personalize It
Style magazines and blogs are great.
Clearly you agree – you’re reading one right now!
I can purchase all kinds of beautiful and stunning pieces for client’s home and make any space look like it came out of a style magazine.
But these are designed to give you ideas for how to design your home, not to copy them.
When it comes to your home, it’s important to personalize it.
We all have those special items in our drawers, cabinets, closets, etc.
You know, those special items gifted to us from our parents and ancestors.
Like many people, you might not know how to display them.
In many cases, these items can be truly beautiful pieces that just haven’t gotten the right environment to shine.
Adding these precious pieces into your home’s décor is a lovely way to incorporate your history and the story of your life.
They also make wonderful conversation starters.
